Underwriter

A Private Lending firm is seeking a skilled Underwriter to join their team. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for assessing loan applications, evaluating risk factors, and managing the underwriting process through to closing. Experience in real estate and a thorough knowledge of various types of loans are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities:
Evaluate loan applications to determine borrower eligibility and assess creditworthiness. Review financial documents, credit reports, and other relevant information to make informed lending decisions.
Analyze property appraisals, title reports, and other due diligence documents to assess risk factors associated with each loan. Identify potential issues and propose mitigation strategies as needed.
Work closely with loan officers and borrowers to structure loan terms that align with the company's lending criteria and objectives. Determine appropriate loan amounts, interest rates, and repayment terms based on risk assessment and borrower qualifications.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards throughout the underwriting process. Stay up-to-date on changes in lending regulations and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively with loan officers, borrowers, and other stakeholders to gather information, clarify requirements, and provide updates on the status of loan applications. Address any concerns or questions in a timely and professional manner.
Prepare loan documentation, including loan agreements, promissory notes, and closing instructions. Verify accuracy and completeness of documentation to facilitate a smooth closing process.
Conduct thorough reviews of underwriting files to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with underwriting guidelines. Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.

Requirements:
Experience in underwriting, preferably in the real estate or mortgage industry.
Strong knowledge of real estate principles, loan types (such as fix-and-flip, bridge loans, and construction loans), and underwriting standards.
Familiarity with loan origination software and underwriting tools.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
